Hair Brush Straighteners

Top 5 Best Hair Brush Straightener Reviews for Jun. 2017

The Groom+Style review team untangle the mysteries of straight hair, and line up a list of the best hair straightening brushes for you!

Why do we always want what we can’t have? Many women with straight hair fantasize about having lavish curls. Similarly, women with curly or wavy hair would give almost anything to have sleek, shiny, straight hair.

Curling straight hair is relatively easy; perms and curling irons have been around for several years. Those with wavy hair that doesn’t relax even after blow drying, endure more tortuous methods to change the look of their locks. Hair relaxer (straightener) products and hair dryers released over the years have often been hit or miss with many users.

Only recently have hair brush straighteners, like hot combs and modern flat irons, become more reliable and safer to use on a regular basis.

For a more details about what is right for your hair read Groom+Style’s hair straighteners buying and user guide – flat iron or brush, what is best for your hair.

There are several different types of hot brushes on the market. The Revlon Spin Brush (also available in 1” and 1 ½” brushes) is a rotating air brush which combines the effects of a blow dryer and a brush all in one.

The Revlon Perfect Heat works best on partially dry hair. Hot air blows from inside the brush,  while the soft bristles spin to take the curl out of your hair. Alternatively, you can leave the ends of your hair curly, whilst straightening the rest.

The brush has two heat settings, the ability to rotate the bristles in either direction to prevent tangles, and a cold shot button to cool things down when required.

Whilst the Revlon Spin Brush is very effective, it does has a very large handle which can make it difficult to maneuver.

For a terrific straightening tool at a startlingly low price, the Revlon Perfect Heat is a wonderful appliance to straighten your hair.

Features of the Revlon Perfect Heat 2” Tourmaline Ceramic Hot Air Spin Brush:

  • 2 Heat Settings
  • Tangle Free Bristles
  • Cold Shot Button
  • Multi Directional Buttons (to change the direction the brush rotates in)
  • 2 inch Brush
  • 900 Watts Ceramic Tourmaline Technology
  • 2 in 1 – hair dryer and brush

2. Apalus Brush Hair Straightener

The Apalus is a standard heated hair brush, primarily for use on dry hair. The Apalus Brush is able to straighten and smooth hair in a way a manual brush can’t.

This product applies constant heat when you turn it on taking only one minute to reach full temperature. The brush is automatically programmed to operate at 365° which is suitable for delicate hair, but has optional settings for hair with a natural texture (410°) or very thick or wavy (450°). The brush has a no-scald tip, so there are no concerns about the high temperatures damaging your hair or your hands.

The Apalus works quickly, taking approximately ten seconds per pass to straighten most types of hair, making it an inexpensive lifesaver if you need a quick straightening before heading off to work. The Apalus hair straightener can also be used as a detangling brush and massager to straighten frizzy or unmanageable hair if used in conjunction with Agam essential oil or Moroccan oil.

A great straightener to be used on dry hair which works quickly.

Features of the Apalus Brush Hair Straightener:

  • Variable temperature settings for different hair types (365°, 410°, 450°)
  • Onehour automatic shut off
  • Dual voltage(110V/240V) with Celsius temperature display capability
  • 3 in 1 – ceramic iron straightener,detangling brush andanion hair massager

3. InStyler Wet to Dry Rotating Iron

At first glance, the Instyler appears to be similar to a flat iron. However, the side with the plate actually has a brush mounted onto it; the other side contains a rotating titanium barrel.

The rotating iron can be used on semi-wet, towel-dried hair. The barrel side goes closest to your head, and as it rotates while being pulled through your hair, it dries it. Meanwhile, the heated brush straightens the hair.

The end result is straight hair that has more fullness than if you used a flat iron. The Instyler performs best if you run the appliance through each hair section twice.

It only takes approximately 30 seconds for the brush to reach temperature (maximum temperature is 410°), and there’s an automatic shut off safety feature. As an added benefit, the InStyler can also be used to curl hair or flip ends, just by wrapping the hair around the barrel and letting it rotate for approximately five seconds.

This brush is more expensive than the Revlon and Apalus brushes. However, despite its slightly strange appearance, the InStyler is a powerful hair straightening tool that is more versatile than most options if you want to style as well as straighten.

Features of the InStyler Wet To Dry Rotating Iron:

  • Multiple heat settings (285° to 410°)
  • Onehour automatic shut off
  • 30-second rapid heat-up
  • 1 ¼ inch barrel
  • 2 in 1- straightening or curling

4. Scalpmaster Ceramic Thermal Hair Straightener

Scalpmaster Ceramic Thermal HS

You need to have a blow dryer for this straightener. Click the photo to see the Price on Amazon.

The Scalpmaster straightener looks like a flat iron but has two brushes mounted on the plates. The way you use this straightener is straightforward; you heat the hair by aiming a dryer into the vents on the back and pull the appliance through your hair. The short nylon bristles detangle and straighten the hair as you pull.

The Scalpmaster can be used without heat to detangle thick hair, and is more effective on long, thick or frizzy hair (particularly African-American hair) than most of the other options the Groom+Style team have investigated. It is relatively inexpensive, and once you get the hang of using it, it’s quite effective in straightening hair.

An inexpensive option that is very effective on thick hair.

Features of the Scalpmaster Ceramic Thermal Hair Straightener:

  • Tough nylon bristles
  • Ergonomically-designed
  • No power needed

5. Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium 2 Inch Rotating Hot Air Brush

The Babybliss is a rotating hair brush straightener, similar to Revlon Perfect Heat, however it is made from titanium instead of ceramic and is about $20 more expensive. This model has three heat settings, but it does not have a cold shot button. Some believe the titanium makes a difference in the way their hair feels but the team don’t see it; we think the performance is virtually identical to the Revlon Perfect Heat.

Features of the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium 2 Inch Rotating Hot Air Brush:

  • 3 Heat Settings
  • Tangle Free Bristles
  • Multi–Directional Buttons
  • 2 inch Brush
  • 2 in 1 – hair dryer and brush
